Today, WP Engine announced the release of Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) version 6.1. This will allow users to register custom post types and custom taxonomies from within the plugin for the first time.
This major extension of plugin functionality represents the next generation of ACF, which over 4.5 million users worldwide rely on as the standard way to assign custom metadata in WordPress.New features are available in both the free version of the plugin wordpress.org Even if ACF Pro.
Together, these features allow site developers to minimize the number of plugins and additional code they need to rely on when scaffolding their content model.
“It’s hard to find a WordPress developer who hasn’t used ACF,” said Rob Stinson, WP Engine Product Marketing Manager. “It’s exciting to bring this level of new value to a product that is already so well-loved and central to so many WordPress tech stacks.”
Since ACF was acquired by WP Engine along with other Delicious Brains products in mid-2022, ACF’s 6.1 release has helped bring tremendous growth and value to the WordPress community and the wider community as the plugin’s custodian. It represents WP Engine’s commitment to fulfill its role. An ecosystem of plugins.
Streamlined priority development workflow
Custom post types and custom taxonomies are widely used by developers to organize and manage different types of content or link portfolios, testimonials, events or other custom content required for a particular project It has been.
“Registering a custom post type and creating custom fields go hand in hand,” says Iain Poulson, Senior Product Manager at WP Engine.
“This is the workflow that our users have always used for traditional block-based headless WordPress site builds, but now we can do this directly from ACF without touching any code or using another plugin. It is now.”
Extensions are expected to save developers countless hours and reduce the margin of error from switching between different plugins and command lines over and over again.
“Ultimately, we’re following our users’ lead and adding helpful improvements to the development workflows they’re already using,” says Stinson.
