Hi!I sagar doshi. I am a Chartered Accountant qualified by ICAI (Indian Institute of Chartered Accountants) and have a Bachelor of Commerce degree. I work as a deputy manager in one of the world’s largest conglomerates. And my current role is involved in indirect taxes.
I have a keen interest in the stock market, have established my own trading setups and trade manually. And I’m working on building an algorithmic trading setup.
Algorithmic trading sets the rules and removes human emotions from the equation. This helped me make better trading decisions and this fascinated me.
I did a lot of manual training. However, we wanted to save time and automate our trading. That way, you can focus on building more strategies instead of spending your precious time on manual trading. It inspired me to learn more about algorithms and Python.
I started looking for a platform that would allow me to automate trading and develop and backtest trading strategies. It was at that time that I met EPAT.
I’m from a commercial background, so I learned a lot about taxes, accounting, and finance, but I didn’t study coding. Coding is an important part of algorithmic trading. Diving into the Python programming language was a whole new journey for me when I attended EPAT.
To pursue my ambitions, I spent a lot of time learning Python. I have developed some strategies for myself and spent some time overcoming this challenge.
The following worked for me:
- time management – People with non-coding backgrounds have to spend more time understanding concepts than those already familiar with the field. I had a full-time job, so I couldn’t study on weekdays. So I spent the weekend learning to use Python.
- Utilization of recorded lectures – I have a solid understanding of the basic concepts of Excel. But it was important for me to keep looking at different parameters and understand their applicability. The recorded lectures allowed me to follow the lectures at my own pace and understand what was being taught.
- Books and Blogs – I consulted a lot of free online books. EPAT offers a unique set of books on Python and machine learning, extensive learning material, and very good and comprehensive resources. Their blog is very informative and helpful. This is especially useful for those who are new to the field and want to learn more about this domain.
- Case Study – The lecturers gave very interesting and informative talks. Case studies describing trading strategies used by trading professionals. They provided various references and research materials to expand our knowledge. Personally, I found these very helpful as they help me learn about the latest developments in both the stock market and algorithm development.
With EPAT, I started my journey into the world of algo trading and it’s been great. But now I have to digest the knowledge I consumed and put it into practice in the world of practice. I am working on creating a customized Python code for my daily trading and will soon integrate it into my trading strategy.
A message to all aspiring algo traders.
