Last night, three Wednesdays in a row, I took the plunge Whiteside Theater Went to see an old movie in downtown Corvallis. 2 weeks ago National Lampoon’s Christmas Holidays. last week, it’s a wonderful lifeand yesterday Star WarsThe place was packed! Watching your favorite movie in an old theater with hundreds of fans is a lot of fun.
Recently, I often watch movies at home. I finally have time.according to letter box, I watched 17 movies in December. I saw nine in November. I like exploring every nook and cranny of movies. (By the way, Letterboxd is highly recommended. record my movie watching 2 years, I can’t imagine anymore No I’m using. )
I am busy every day.
Walking the dog in the morning as usual. But lately, my walks have become longer, like 90 minutes or 2 hours.Part of this is because I embarked on a crazy mapping project every day little free library and town stalls [my map]But in large part because I’m finally making fitness a priority again.
Some of you may remember losing 40 pounds during COVID. I was happy with my fitness heading into 2021, but I sold my house, bought a house, and 2022 was derailed by some very crappy things.I got into the bad habit of stress eating. Any exercise. For all the weight he lost in 2020 and more he gained 50 pounds. Well, for the past three weeks, I’ve been both exercising and eating right.I’m back in the gym. In January I will join his 30 day yoga challenge with a friend.
I’ve slowly been improving my kitchen to make it easier to make healthy choices with food. I’m getting an idea. Plus, after being with Kim for over a decade, it’s time to ditch the old kitchen utensils (some of which we’ve owned since the 1990s!) and upgrade to better tools. Decided. I now own three nice knives.
On the other hand, after 18 months Chatting For art, I started dabbling in it. There are not many, but there are some. Earlier this month, I started a daily art journal. Playing around with pens and drawing styles. I bought a cheap watercolor set and have fun playing with it. When I’m not watching movies, I often watch art classes on YouTube.
Plus, I have other fun things to do. I read books and comics. I spent more time with my friends in both Zoom and Real Life.
In short, December was my best month in a long time. I’ve lived a value-driven life and it shows. I can feel it People around me can feel it.
But be careful what’s not on that list.what am i No are you doing? I am writing about money. I have been intentionally taking her 3 month sabbatical leave since her mother passed away in early October. It’s clear that I needed it. It’s also clear that you probably need more time for yourself. Like everything in 2023.
I said earlier this month that I want 2023 to be the year of JD, and it’s true.prioritize what to do Me I want it when I want it I don’t mean this in a hedonistic sense. It means “pursue what satisfies you”. does that make sense?
My number one priority for next year is to focus on fitness. Kim and I are doing this together for the first time since we met at her Crossfit, but it’s great to be on the same page, it’s so much easier to do this as a team. In addition to exercising and eating healthy, I also address lingering health issues such as blood pressure and sleep apnea.
My second priority for 2023 is to continue to build (and rebuild) friendships here at Corvallis. I identify as an introvert, but it’s clear I’m not.Me need Social interaction, and I’m not getting enough of it. i am working on it.
My third priority for the next 12 months is to dive into art. I had a hard time getting started for several reasons.
- first, i don’t know Where to start. I am a complete newbie. I have never done anything artistic in my life. (Well, not entirely true. When I was in middle school, my friends and I drew our own cartoon, but it was for kids.)
- Second, I don’t know what kind of art to pursue. do you want to draw? do you want to draw? something completely different?
This month, I stopped thinking about these kinds of questions and started doing what I wanted to do with pen and paint instead. The only way to figure out where to go is to try things. Additionally, I pay attention to what excites me. Comics obviously excite me and have always excite me. But I also realized that he likes the style I call the “mid-century spot illustration” style, heavy brush strokes, a kind of cartoon.
A final priority is deciding which projects to pursue around the house. Kim and I moved here at the end of August 2021 after his. We love Corvallis and would love to live here. We’re fine, but… not perfect. (No home.) After he “wasted” over $150,000 on the last home change and moved 4 years later, I’m more cautious here. If we stay, I’m willing to spend the money and effort to improve things.
So Kim and I have to make a decision. For example, does he promise to stay in this place for ten years, or does he agree that it is just a temporary place? that is I have a few projects I want to work on right away if I’m going to stay. I want to remodel my bathroom – maybe two. And I want to redecorate my backyard. (The “bones” of the garden are solid, but after nearly a decade of neglect, the space is overgrown with ferns and weeds.)
That’s my plan for 2023. Again, note that Get Richly is not included in this list.
I can’t decide what to do with Get Rich Slowly. What role will it play in my life? do Will it play a role in my life?
This is part of the larger question of what role I want the Internet (and actually the computer itself) to play in my life. Over the last few years it has become clear to me (like many others) that the Internet offers as many problems as solutions. In fact, I suspect my recent mental health struggles have been exacerbated by the internet.probably even cause on the internet.
One option is to cut the cord completely and walk away. sell the site Stop writing about money forever. Consider it a stage in my life and move on. This choice has many advantages. But I’m not convinced it’s the best option. What if I regret my decision?if i conduct Would you like a place to talk about money again?
Besides, there are two big reasons why I want to keep Get Rich Slowly (or Money Boss instead). For one thing, I really conduct We want to create an online encyclopedia of personal finance. This is a place of advertising and analytics, bullshit and tidy, where people can get reliable and unbiased money information. Second, and perhaps more importantly, I’m a writer. I express myself in words. I enjoy having an outlet to share what I feel. just like this!
So I am vague.
I come and go
I think, think, and think about the best courses to take.
But what do you know? It’s not a decision I have to make right now. Right now, it’s best to just keep doing what you’ve been doing. it seems to be working. December was everything for me and my needs. So will 2023.
I will focus on fitness next year. I will continue to explore art and watch movies. I’m going to hang out with my friends.finally i’m going trip Also. (We already have plans to visit Colorado, Mexico, Greece, Ecuador, and more!) I plan to spend time with Kim and our beasts. I’m going to read I’m going to cook
And from time to time — at least for now — I stop by Get Rich Slowly to share what I’ve been thinking and doing.
Have a nice holiday everyone. See you next year.
