Welcome to Episode 325 Financial Advisor Success Podcast!
Today’s podcast guest is Brenda Hiscock. Brenda is a financial planner at Objective Financial Partners, an advice-only advisory firm based in Ontario, Canada, where she works with clients on project-based financial plans and outsourced to other Canadian advisory firms. We also offer paraplanning.
But what’s unique about Brenda is that not only did she enter the financial services industry without a financial background, but she was also very financially successful while surviving homelessness, bankruptcy, and alcoholism in her 20s. Entering the financial services industry despite growing up in a relatively difficult environment. Not only has she patiently established herself as a financial adviser, but she has also leveraged her real-world experience and challenges to provide a deeper and more meaningful level of engagement with her current clients, as well as their financial past. I was able to explain how does affect financials. Current and future actions as well.
This episode details how Brenda’s mother died suddenly when she was still in high school, leaving her with the responsibility of caring for her younger brother and creating a huge financial burden that Brenda couldn’t handle. She worked two jobs and eventually she became homeless and started a cycle of alcohol addiction as her coping mechanism. Brenda finally sobered 19 years ago after an early battle with alcoholism and two failures in rehab, and staying home with a flexible schedule has helped her balance work and life. Not only was it just right for her, but it was essential for her to have the space she needed for her mental health, explaining how Brenda’s views on the benefits of financial planning, especially insurance, were important. Both her financial struggles as a teenager after her mother died without life insurance and her financial stability after disability insurance were deeply shaped by both not returning her to homelessness. n She was diagnosed with cancer just one year after sobriety and had to take a year off work to get the care she needed.
Also, when Brenda realized she had to look after her brother, she sought help and her high school put her in a cooperative education program and got her a job as a teller at the credit union that started her. I will also talk about how On a career in the financial services industry, how Brenda got into insurance later in her career (because she knew how important it was to have insurance) I realized that her first-hand experience with Merit didn’t help. Also, Brenda’s efforts to find a suitable position for her in the financial services industry eventually led her to Financial Her Planning. She uses her personal experience and her life lessons to help educate her on how to properly handle finances and solve emotional problems with money.
Please listen to the end. Brenda always thought she was bad with numbers, but she discovered that she enjoys financial planning. Because she is able to combine intuitive math skills with a love of working with people, educating and having deep knowledge. Conversations that could affect the client’s future life, Brenda’s ongoing efforts to reconcile with the struggles she has endured throughout her life, but bring her to where she is today and to others. The importance of insurance, support from others, and having a good financial plan for yourself, and Brenda’s mentorship of young and new advisors. I believe it is important not only to find the career goals to achieve.
So why does Brenda find it essential and beneficial to have life or medical insurance, how Brenda overcame addiction and a cancer diagnosis, or how Brenda believes her clients are dealing with money.
