Image license information
Here we explain why licensing matters and the differences between Creative Commons and Public Domain licenses.
Why media licenses matter for bloggers and content creators
Media licenses determine the terms of use for content such as images on your website. Posting unlicensed images or music violates the rights of the owner and may result in fines and penalties.
This is why it is so important to make sure the content you are using is public. This helps ensure that you are legally compliant.
Openverse makes it easy to search for the type of content you want to use, or search by the type of license you have. The filters on the Openverse search page look like this:

Here are the available licenses that you can choose from. This will give you a better understanding of how your license is being used.
Creative Commons License
Creative Commons (CC) licensing provides a flexible and standardized way for creators to authorize others to use their work. In effect, Creative Commons allows creators to share their works (images, music, etc.) with others while controlling how those works are used.
For example, photographers publish their photos under a Creative Commons license and others can use them for non-commercial purposes as long as they give credit to the photographer. This makes it easy for content creators to use their photos in their projects without worrying about copyright infringement. Below is a comparison chart of the different CC licenses available and how they can be used.
public domain work
public domain works no It is copyrighted and can be used freely by anyone for any purpose without permission. Works in the public domain are usually either shared into the public domain by their creators or have their copyrights expired causing them to enter the public domain.
