As part of our commitment to the growth of Akamai cloud computing services, we have news to share. We are working to expand our global network, including improving our data center builds, updating our products to include object storage, and introducing new services such as virtual private clouds, serverless or functions into our roadmap.
Green Light is a product-driven community program that gives developers, startups, and partners early access, beta access to news about our cloud computing services, and direct user access to our product and engineering teams. Provide an opportunity to provide feedback. We have some exciting things happening on our roadmap. You can get these benefits by signing up for the Green Light program or specific releases.
upcoming beta
New core data centers including Washington DC
As we look to expand our footprint across Akamai’s network, the team is updating our standard data center build, including hardware, system design, capacity, and product features available on CPUs. increase. For a complete list of sites to choose from, you can check our expansion plans on our Global Networking page.
Object storage enhancements
Object storage was launched in 2019 and is being rolled out across our fleet as we update our network. Based on new network efficiencies and hardware availability, we will be piloting new builds with flash SSDs and updating the entire roadmap committed core site.
virtual private cloud
We are developing a Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) service. A VPC allows you to deploy applications with hidden data communication and complete isolation from the public internet and other tenants. This is an expansion of our network services roadmap that includes the 2021 release of private VLANs.
serverless or function
A serverless or function is a managed cloud computing service that enables developers to run code only when needed, such as in response to events. In contrast to developing and maintaining microservices, functions are intended for quick or temporary code injection to execute a single function on a trigger basis.
As we make progress, get closer to beta timing, and get closer to general availability, we will add more details to the product section of our website. Register for Green Light today, contact our sales team, or submit product-specific feedback to learn more.
