About this event

What do I need to speak at a WordPress Meetup or WordCamp?
Here’s what you need:
- talk topic
- well crafted title
- great lecture description
It is also very useful when:
- feel like you’re on stage
- Overcome tension and show your presence on stage
Some of us struggle with this more than others. For Indian women, these can be especially difficult.
GreenGeeks is helping the WordPress community team Diverse Speaker Training Group (#WPDiversity) organize and host the workshop “Speaker Workshop for Indian Women in the WordPress Community”.
This is a workshop for women from India (other countries are welcome) who are looking to speak at a WordPress Meetup or WordCamp.
When we say “women” we include anyone who sometimes or always identifies as a woman.
Intrigued by the idea of speaking at a WordPress Meetup or WordCamp? The focus of this hands-on online workshop is to create a WordPress-related topic to speak on.
This includes writing well-crafted titles, building speaking confidence, and overcoming nervousness. Not to mention being on stage and practicing speaking in a safe space.
At the end of the workshop, you will have an idea for your talk, an outline of one topic, a title, a proposal/suggestion to apply for the event, giving you the confidence to go on stage.
In addition, you will have the opportunity to practice speaking.
No public speaking experience required. This workshop is for all levels of experience.

why do this?

GreenGeeks values diversity, especially the empowerment of women around the world. We see a world of mixed organizers and leaders, including gender.
Public speaking is one of the direct paths to great opportunities for people. This is why we co-organize this event with #WPDiversity and work closely with them. Jill Binderthe lead of Diversity Speaker Training Group (#WPDiversity)and funded Jill’s work to hold this workshop.
This workshop follows two previous workshops in India that we hosted and helped to organize. Indian Female Speaker Workshop at WordPress Community 2022 and Empowering Female Speakers at India 2021 WordPress Event.
This is the second year in a row that we are holding this particular style of workshop, working directly with women in India who are looking to become speakers.
“This is a great opportunity to learn. Even if you’re confident in public speaking, this workshop will help you understand how to narrow down your topic, how to pitch, and what to keep in mind when speaking in public. Thanks to the organizers for helping make this happen and to Jill for running it and getting everyone involved.“ – Akshaya Rane, Software Developer, Thane, India
“The feedback process was great. There was a nice balance of constructive criticism and praise, which helped build confidence. but this is difficult to do alone without feedback.” – Karishma Sundaram, Content Strategist
