Individual blocks, especially the navigation block, also received a much-needed upgrade. Like many other WordPress features, they continue to improve their functionality and user experience. Design freely with updated block patterns
Block patterns have been one of the most popular WordPress features since their introduction. These are collections of predefined blocks that you can insert into your pages and posts and customize with your own content. With them, you can quickly and easily create pages that stand out on your WordPress site.
Now in WordPress 6.2, the pattern inserter has been redesigned to make it easier to choose between patterns, including new bundled header and footer options. Developers and site builders who create and contribute patterns can expand where they can be used, including the option to register templates-only patterns.
New block pattern features
- Streamline pattern selection with an improved pattern inserter and refined taxonomy.
- Easily switch between header and footer patterns bundled with Core.
- Register a pattern with a particular template type to specify which templates can use the pattern. For example, an error 404 pattern should only be used in a 404 template.
